BEACHES
Petten (4 km) you will find the beach of Petten where you can park your car for free. Hargen by the Sea (9 km) has a large paid parking lot and a very nice beach pavilion which is open all year round. In Camperduin by the Sea (9 km) is the special lagoon where you can sunbathe out of the wind. A large wooden play ship has been installed for children. Are you looking for something more fun? In Callantsoog (13 km) you will find various hip beach pavilions with a cozy village square.
The Schoorlse Duinen, the highest dune area in the Netherlands in the north of North Holland. With more than & 60 kilometers of hiking trails and you can fully enjoy dunes, forest, heathland, special plants, dozens of bird species and the most beautiful mushrooms. Be surprised by nature! The Schoorlse Duinen outdoor centre (9 km) is the start of various cycling and walking routes. You can find more information about the nature reserve. Kids can play here to their hearts content or do a fun treasure hunt.
Walk into the center of Schoorl and enjoy nice shops, cozy restaurants and the famous Klimduin (adjacent to the Schoorl dunes), which is located in the middle of the village. Children can play here while you keep an eye on things from one of the surrounding terraces and enjoy a snack and a drink. A visit to the old Raadhuisje from 1601 and the church of Schoorl is also worthwhile.
Schoorl offers plenty of opportunities for a sporty holiday. In addition to the unique walking and cycling routes, there is much more to do. For example, Schoorl has one of the most popular MTB routes in the Netherlands along the most beautiful places in the Schoorl dunes. Bring your own mountain bike or rent one at the park. In Camperduin you can enjoy yourself on the water. Windsurfing, kitesurfing or supping on the lagoon, the location is ideal for it. Horse riding is also very popular in Schoorl, enjoy long rides along the tide line.
The Blanckendale Park (3.5 km) is a spacious zoo with animals from all over the world. It's never too busy. Adventure Paradise and Country of Fluwel (5km). Outdoor and indoor playground De Goudvis (6 km). Outdoor Center Schoorlse Duinen(9 km) where kids can enjoy themselves here in the play forest with water playground or defy nature on the Blotevoetenpad. All kinds of educational routes have also been set out for children aged 2.5 to 12 years. Spotting wild animals? Have a blast? In De Swaan playground (11 km), the largest (outdoor) play park in North Holland, kids can certainly enjoy themselves for an entire afternoon. And in bad weather a visit to the cinema Kinepolis Schagen (12 km) always a success.
In the vicinity of Vogelvrij you will find many nice villages and towns to discover. The nearest town is Schagen (9 km) and is known for the West Frisian market on Thursdays in the summer season. Schoorl en Bergen (9 km) is known for its exclusive boutiques and atmospheric terraces, ideal for an afternoon of shopping. A little further on you will find the cheese city of Alkmaar (17 km) with a busy shopping street and restaurants and cafes around the Waagplein. In the old part you will find nice, authentic shops. Would you like to get a breath of fresh air? Take the ferry in Den Helder (26 km) and spend a day on the Wadden island of Texel. This way you really get away from it all! Or for the little kids Sprookjes Wonderland in Enkhuizen.
Discover the world of the Royal Netherlands Navy and board a submarine in the Navy Museum in Den Helder (26 km). During the cheese market on Friday and the Cheese Museum in Alkmaar (17 km) you will learn everything about our famous Dutch cheese. Prefer something outside? Imagine yourself in former times in the Zuiderzee Museum.
